If your bedroom looks
anything like mine, you probably have mismatched nightstands, the dresser you
inherited after college, a chest you picked up at a garage sale, and the bed
frame you bought when you finally got that first nice job almost ten years ago.
Maybe its time we think of getting new bedroom furniture sets.
Shopping for Bedroom Furniture
When shopping for bedroom furniture sets you first need to think about what you have that you’re keeping
and what you’re tossing out. Are any of those mismatched pieces heirlooms that
simply cannot be put in the garage, attic, or basement? For me, the dresser
(green and old as it is), is impossible to part with. Whatever bedroom
furniture I buy, I need to complement that bulky green dresser that everyone
else thinks is an eyesore. It’s my room. It’s staying.
Bedroom Furniture Sets
Once you’ve established
what’s going and staying, you’ll know what you need to buy and now you can
think about styles. What colors are your walls? What kind of lighting do you
have in your bedroom? When shopping for bedroom furniture sets, we have to take
the room’s space, color, and lighting into account.
My room has very little
natural lighting. To offset this, I painted the walls a light off-white. It
tends to give my bedroom the illusion of a bit more space. Darker bedroom
furniture nicely contrasts the walls, and it also works with the hunter green
dresser in the corner. I know I need two new nightstands and a bed frame. I’m
going for dark wood. Now I need to figure out what style best suits me.
The thing about my bedroom
furniture set that signaled change was how long some of this stuff has been in
my possession. I don’t so much mind a bit of mismatching, but my furniture
looked like something you’d see in a dorm room. It was too mismatched.
Stylistically, I like a little contrast. My preference in shopping furniture is
to buy pieces rather than whole sets. But that’s just me. Shopping for bedroom
furniture sets can mean you buy the entire set; it also can mean that you
create your own bedroom set. I have decided to pull from various collections. You
have to figure out what works best for you.
When you think of all the
options you have in purchasing new furniture, the task can seem overwhelming.
Don’t let it be. There are many choices in bedroom furniture sets, and if you
don’t see exactly what you want in one collection, just make up your own.
